The Webb Fine Arts Department believes that a fine arts education is essential for the development of the whole child. The arts provide students with unique experiences that allow them to explore their passions, maximize their creativity and critical thinking skills, and learn valuable lessons about self-motivation, dedication, teamwork, and communication.

Visual Art

The Visual Arts Program at Webb Middle School focuses on the development of technical skills in a variety of media. In the art program, students will learn new techniques and sharpen their skills while exploring artists and art history.

Choir

Beginning Choir is open to any interested sixth grade students; Intermediate Choir for seventh and eighth, Advanced Choir for seventh and eighth grade students with prior musical training and audition. The core curriculum emphasizes the basics of vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, and music history.

Orchestra

Orchestra is offered at three levels of instruction. Students furnish violins and the school provides violas, cellos, and string basses. Basic fundamentals of stringed instruments are introduced, and rapidly progressing students may be transferred to a more-advanced Orchestra as scheduling permits. Out-of-school rehearsals and performances are required. String players must be enrolled in a regular orchestra class to participate in other specialized instrumental ensembles, such as Mariachi.

Band

The Webb Bands include grades 6-8 and focus on developing our young, beginning musicians into well-rounded and refined artists. The Webb Band offers courses for first-year Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, and Percussion students. Once a year of Beginning Band is completed, students advance to our ensembles, which include our Concert Band, and Honors Band.

Guitar

Guitar is offered at three levels of instruction. Students furnish classical guitars; however, some instruments may be available for use. Rapidly progressing students may be transferred to a more-advanced Guitar as scheduling permits. Out-of-school rehearsals and performances are required.

Mariachi

This ensemble provides an introduction to a variety of musical genres from Mexico with an emphasis on practical performance skills. It provides students an opportunity to learn —for those who have little knowledge of such music — as well as encourages the participation of more experienced performers. Although designed primarily for those with some formal musical education, the course can also accommodate percussionists and singers without any training.
